Long ago, in Bible times there was a man who had
two sons.
He was very proud of them, and loved them both very
much.
We don't know their names, but we will call one
son Walt, and one son we'll call Lucas.
The father had a tough job that he needed done one
day.
"Walt", he said, "will you go and
weed the garden for me?"
"Sure, Dad", Walt said. "I will go."
But then things kept happening to keep him from doing it. Friends
came by to visit him, and they stayed until lunch time. After lunch
he couldn't go weed, because he had eaten too much, and was too
full! Then he had a good book that he really wanted to finish, and
then, before you knew it, it was just too dark!
The father was disappointed when he saw the garden
had not been weeded.
"Lucas", he said, "would you go weed
the garden for me?"

"No, way! Lucas said. "I hate weeds, and
I don't want to get chiggers! Besides," he said, "it's
too hot outside!"
The father shook his head, and sadly left for work.
Lucas couldn't get the sad look from his fathers'
face out of his head. He felt badly about how he had answered him.
He knew his dad worked very hard every day. He didn't ask much of
Lucas. That was very bad of him to be so rude to his dad. His conscience
just wouldn't let him alone.
"OK, OK, I'll go!" and Lucas grabbed up
his gardening gloves, and headed for the garden. He worked all morning,
until every weed was gone.
Which son made the father happy? The son who said
"yes", but didn't , or the son who said, "no",
but did?
God is like that father in the story! When He asks
us to do something for Him, it doesn't matter what we SAY to Him,
what matters is what we DO!
We should always do what God asks us to do, and
make Him happy.

"He that hath my commandments and keepeth them,
he it is that loveth me, and he that loveth me shall be loved of
my Father, and I will love him and will manifest myself to him."
John 14:21
