Puppet Show

CHARACTERS: Joey, (Joey is wearing a large torn shirt), Luke, Patty

Joey: Oh,he's gonna kill me, I just know he's gonna kill me! OH NO! Oh, what am I gonna do?

Luke: What's the matter, Joey?

Joey: It's my dad! I just know he's gonna kill me when he sees what I've done to his favorite t-shirt!

Luke: Why? What did you do?

Joey: Well, I borrowed it to go playing in, and, well, I was climbing this really great tree--It was taller than a building-you should've seen it!

Luke: Cool! Then what?

Joey: I was up at the very top, when Mom called me to come in, and get ready to go to town. "Right now!" she said, so I knew she really meant it and I better hurry, and I was hurrying... and, well, I ripped it!

Luke: OH NO! How bad?

Joey: Pretty bad, right in the front, too, see?

Luke: Oh, that is bad! Boy, Joey, you are in big trouble!

Joey: I know! What am I gonna do? What AM I gonna do?

Luke: Well, let's think about this. I came over to show you my new cool t-shirt.
I just got it today! But your problem is more important!
Let's see, what can we do to help you....hmmm....Hey! I got an idea!
We can cut a piece out of my new shirt, and sew it onto your Dad's old favorite shirt! It'll be good as new!

Joey: You can sew?

Luke: No, but I've seen my Mom do it.....I bet we can figure it out! Let's go!

Joey: OK, boy, Luke, it's a good thing that I have such smart friends!

Luke: Yeah, you are really lucky to have ol' Luke around, all right! Let's go get busy!

Joey: OK

Puppets down

Ask: What do you think of Luke's plan? Is it a good one? Will Joey's Dad know that his shirt got damaged? Could Luke's plan get him into trouble?

Puppets Up

Luke: Well, that didn't work out the way I hoped it would!

Joey: I'd say not! Now not only am I in trouble, YOU are, too, and my Dad says he can never wear his favorite shirt again, that it's ruined! We tried so hard to fix it!

Luke: Yeah, well, we messed up! Now I don't have a new shirt, and your Dad doesn't have his old one!

(both sigh)

Patty up: Hey, guys! Why the sad faces?

Luke: We've had a bad day. See, first Joey borrowed his dads favorite t-shirt, and tore it BAD...

Patty: Oh, oh! What did he say when you told him, Joey?

Joey: Wait, that's not all! See, we thought Luke had a good idea... He had a new t-shirt, and...

Luke: Yeah, I told Joey we could take some material off of that, and sew up the big hole in his dad's shirt...

Patty: You thought that was a good idea?

Luke: At the time we did...

Joey: Now we know it wasn't.....

Luke: Now both our folks are mad at us!

Patty: Well, you can't blame them! You took something that wasn't yours, and damaged it.

Joey: Yeah, I did, that was bad..

Patty: Luke, then you ruined a perfectly good, new shirt to try and cover it up!

Luke: Dumb, I know, I see that now!

Patty: It's kinda funny, but did you know that Jesus had a parable about that, in Matthew 9:16, and in Mark 2;21, and in Luke 5:36? Can one of you out there read Matthew 9:16 for me? In it, He isn't really talking about clothes, tho'.

Joey: He's not?

Luke: What's He really talking about?

Patty: He's talking about how we can't just take a piece of Christianity, which is being a follower of Jesus, and stick it in our old lives

. Luke: So, like, we can't say, "Oh, doing good for others is a good thing, I will do that, but I won't let Jesus have the rest of my life!"

Patty: Exactly that! We know the Bible says when we ask Jesus to be the boss of our life, and forgive us of all of our sins, He does that, and He makes us a NEW person. We are not the same anymore, and that is why we can be different in the way we act.

Joey: So, if you say you want to do the good things without Jesus making you new inside, it won't work! Just like me and Luke patching Dad's shirt didn't work!

Patty: Right! I'm SO glad we've asked Jesus to make us new!

Luke: Yeah, me too! I wouldn't want to end up like Joey's Dad's shirt.

Patty : Me either! (puppet down)

Luke: It wasn't pretty! (puppet down)

Joey: Nope, Dad was M A D! Hey, guys, want to come over to my house? I think I'd like some protection! (puppet down)
