The Lost Coin

In Luke 15, Jesus tells us a story about a poor woman who had 10 coins. They were very important to her, and she counted them every day to make sure that she had them! 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10… Maybe some were for her mortgage, some for food, some were for a doctor bill. We don't really know exactly what she needed them for, but they were all she had! One day she got out her coins and counted them…1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9..9? Only 9? Where was the tenth coin?
She had to have it! She'd just had it yesterday! Where could it have gone? - -She had to find it!
She lit a candle to help her look, because her house was dark. (Back in Bible days, there was no electricity, and most houses did not have windows even.) She looked, and looked, but still didn't find the coin. "Oh, NO!" She said, "I MUST find that coin!" She got out her broom so that she could use it to sweep the floor, and find it that way.
Floors back in those days were made of dirt. Often times people would cover the dirt with straw. I think she used her hands to go through all the straw first, so that she could get it out of the way. Then she carefully swept all of the house, and finally - there it was!
The Bible tells us that if we are not saved, we are like that lost coin. God is looking for us. If the coin had not been found, the woman could not have used it. If we are not saved, God cannot use us! How about you? Are you lost or found? If you are lost, and you want to be found, all you have to do is ask God. Pray with me: "Dear God, I know that I am a sinner. I am sorry for my sin. I believe that you love me, and you want to save me. I believe that Jesus came to pay the price for my sin. I right now ask Jesus to come into my heart, and be the boss of my life. I want a home in Heaven with you when I die. Thank you, God, for finding me! Amen"
