Throwing
Stones
By Teresa D. Martin
They said, he said, she said,
Lord I've heard some things,
About folks doing what I know is wrong,
Because I read it in my Bible,
and I heard it in a song.
But when I ask about it,
they say they never did
All those things I heard about them
and how they had backslid.
Lord, if people tell me stuff
and swear that it is true
Why do people get so mad at me
when I howl it to the moon?
Then I heard You whisper to me
a reminder that stopped me in my tracks,
About a woman caught in sin
by those so ready to attack
. Whosoever is without a sin
may throw at her that very first stone.
But Lord, I am not perfect at all,
I have had to atone
For sins I have committed,
Lord, You know all I have done!
Like that woman's accusers so long ago
I hang my head,
slink away,
and drop my stone.
